Kickin’ It with Emily Garnett
October 13th is National Metastatic Breast Cancer Day. To honor this day, I am releasing a never before heard conversation between me and Emily Garnett, a beautiful, smart, fierce advocate for the Metastatic Breast Cancer community who passed away in March of this year from this unrelenting disease.
This episode was from a recording of Emily's podcast "The Intersection of Cancer and Life". Emily's podcast inspired me to start "Kickin' It". Unfortunately, this episode never aired, as Emily's health deteriorated not long after this was recorded. We discuss ovarian cancer and breast cancer , how they can be linked, the need for us to advocate for each other and ourselves, and the parallels between the metastatic breast cancer community and the ovarian cancer community.
It was a bit surreal putting this episode together (which wouldn't have been possible without the help of Emily's husband Christian), as I long to be able to talk and text with my beautiful friend Emily. I miss her voice, her compassion and kindness and her hilarious sense of humor. In this episode, I also talk about my friend and former podcast co-host of "Ladyballers", Sam Ainuddin, who passed away from ovarian cancer a month prior to Emily's passing. 2020 seems to be holding no punches.
If you are so inclined, I urge you to donate money or time to those organizations who are in dire need for funding for research for a cure to end Stage4 metastatic breast cancer to help women like Emily. Emily was an ambassador for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and worked alongside Metavivor as well. I hope you consider amplifying your voices for the women and men who are living with MBC.
